Hungry Mother Lutheran Retreat Center

An outdoor ministry of the Virginia Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Hungry Mother Lutheran Retreat Center is a 58 acre site in the Blue Ridge Mountains, perhaps one of the best kept secrets in Southwest Virginia.  Part woods, part field, we are located on a dead end road half a mile after passing through the Hungry Mother State Park and just 10 minutes  off Interstate 81 at exit 47.  Hungry Mother Creek, which is the source for Hungry Mother Lake, flows through the property while the National Forest  surrounds us on three sides.  Deer, turkey and hawks can be seen during sunrise and sunset in the open fields. 

Nature and God...what could be better?  We welcome people of all affiliations and denominiations to come use our facilities and to participate in our programmed events.  As the demands of life become greater, we all need times and places to slow down and be renewed; we need a place that is set apart from the fast paced lives that we are living.  HMLRC’s retreat setting is one of those places where it is possible to get out of your everyday routine to take some time to study, worship, pray and play.  Our faith in Jesus Christ can be renewed in a variety of experiences in an outdoor setting.  The retreat atmosphere can help to enrich relationships and give us time to be alone with God.
